According to reports in The Sun over the weekend, Manchester United are set to make a sensational move for Manchester City forward Sergio Aguero over the upcoming transfer window.
The report claims that United boss Jose Mourinho is in the hunt for a world-class striker for next season, and if a deal for Antoine Griezmann fails to materialise then Aguero is next on his wish-list.
The 28-year-old is likely to be playing second-string to 19-year-old Brazilian Gabriel Jesus next season, despite being City’s top goal-scorer this year, and it’s believed his future now lies elsewhere.
With Zlatan Ibrahimovic unlikely to re-discover his form from this season after hyper-extending his knee a fortnight ago, the United manager is now desperate to bring in a proven goal-scorer.
The Argentine has scored 120 Premier League goals in just 178 appearances – including 18 during this campaign – and his experience of the top-flight could tempt Mourinho to make the £55 million move.
One player that Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola could use this money on is Juventus defender Alex Sandro, with the Citizens reportedly closing in on a deal for the Brazilian left-back.
The Mirror have alleged that the Manchester side have sent scouts to watch the 25-year-old play for the Old Lady during the past few weeks ahead of a proposed move to the Premier League.
But the report claims that they need to act fast if they want to secure Sandro before his asking price doubles – at £25.6 million at the moment, if he signs a new deal in Italy it could rise to £40 million.
The Brazilian has made 26 appearances for Juventus in Serie A so far this season – scoring twice – and has featured prominently as the Turin outfit have reached the Champions League semi-finals.
With the futures of Bacary Sagna, Pablo Zabaleta and Aleksander Kolarov all in the balance heading into the summer, it is believed that Guardiola is adamant on investing in his defence.
Meanwhile, Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has opened up on his future at the club, saying that he’s willing to battle to be part of Pep Guardiola’s plans moving forward.
After missing most of the season through injury – an issue that has plagued has City career for the past three seasons – he’s played six of the last seven games to help his side’s top-four push.
And after impressing again during the demolition of Crystal Palace at the weekend, Kompany has insisted that he has no plans to leave the Etihad in the near future.
Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, the Belgian said:
“I just want to carry on. I’ve been able to play at a very high level and perform.
“When the young, very talented players that we have in the team start running past me in training then I’ll get worried but so far [there’s] no reason to panic.”
The 31-year-old eased Guardiola’s defensive concerns since returning from injury, as well as scoring twice in six matches – including a thumping effort against Palace on Saturday during City’s 5-0 win.
