Manchester City round-up: Hart loan dismissed; pre-season squad news; Gundogan praises new signing

According to reports in the The Sun late on Tuesday evening, it is believed that Manchester City have told a host of Premier League sides that there is no option to take Joe Hart on loan for next season.

After falling out with manager Pep Guardiola last summer – and after the £35 million arrival of Benfica goalkeeper Ederson Moraes – there’s little chance of first team football for him next year.

But despite interest from West Ham and newly-promoted Newcastle Guardiola has allegedly said that he is not willing to let the England number one leave the club unless it’s on a permanent basis.

It is understood by the report that City have valued the 30-year-old shot-stopper at around £18million – with a £120,000-a-week wage packet – but this salary is too high to match for some.

As of yet there have been no offers of a permanent switch despite receiving numerous enquiries.

Meanwhile, the Daily Mail has claimed that the Manchester City boss is set to leave around £100million worth of players at home when he announces the squad for the pre-season tour of USA.

It is thought that, when the squad is revealed for the tour that begins later this month, there will be five players – including Hart – who won’t be chosen to go with them.

It’s expected that the other four will be made up of Samir Nasri, Wilfried Bony, Eliaquim Mangala and Jason Denayer – all of whom spent last season out on loan elsewhere.

An unnamed source close to the club said: “You’re talking about more than £100m worth of players who will be left in Manchester, including Joe. The manager is clear on his position.”

Instead of joining up with the first-team these five will remain at City’s Etihad Campus and be thoroughly trained, with the end goal of raising their fitness so they can pass medicals quicker for moves away.

Lastly, Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan has praised new signing Bernardo Silva and has tipped him to become a key player at the Etihad for years to come.

The Portuguese midfielder was Guardiola’s first signing of the summer in a £43.5million move from French champions Monaco after impressing both domestically and in Europe last year.

And Gundogan – who suffered a long-term injury last season – has been impressed by what he’s seen of the 22-year-old and claims that it’s an exciting time to be a City fan.

Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, Gundogan said: “He just showed in the Confederations Cup how he is able to play.

“At Monaco nobody expected them to be French champions and perform really well in the Champions League – he was part of that team and did great so will definitely have an impact on the Premier League, which will be good for us.”

The Armenian international has already returned early for pre-season after missing the second half of the Premier League season through a knee ligament injury, and is set to tour the USA later in July.
