Manchester City round-up: Guardiola’s final Sanchez push; striker alternative linked; midfielder heads to Celtic
With just three days until the deadline the summer transfer window is reaching boiling point, and reports on Monday morning claim Manchester City will go all out to try and secure Alexis Sanchez.
The Daily Star believe that Pep Guardiola will test Arsene Wenger’s resolve one final time as he attempts to sign the Chilean, offering £70 million and throwing defender Jason Denayer into the deal.
The 22-year-old Belgian has struggled to force his way into the City first-team, spending last season on-loan at Sunderland, and with Arsenal’s defence in a crisis it may help get a deal done for Sanchez.
Arsenal’s talisman returned to first-team action in the 4-0 thumping by Liverpool on Sunday afternoon after an abdominal injury, lasting 62 minutes, but the Chilean cut an extremely frustrated figure.
Should Wenger remain stubborn and not allow Sanchez to leave, reports surfacing from France believe boss Pep Guardiola could turn his attentions to Borussia Dortmund’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Le Sport 10 understand that Manchester City will make a late raid for the 28-year-old forward over the course of the next few days as they look to bolster their striking options to help challenge for the title.
Aubameyang is believed to be frustrated at the fact that Ousmane Dembele has been allowed to leave the German side this summer and, should City meet Dortmund’s price, he may be permitted to leave.
The report claims that City have already been given an €80million euros (£73 million) valuation of the Gabon striker – which they have the financial capabilities of meeting – although the Blues are likely to face stiff competition from AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain should they act on their interest.
Aubameyang has started the Bundesliga season in superb form despite the ongoing speculation over his future, scoring in each of Dortmund’s opening two matches as they sit in first with a 100% record.
And lastly, with all of the talk of who – or who may not – be coming in to the Etihad over the next few days, it seems like one will be on their way out of the club as Celtic look to sign Patrick Roberts.
The 20-year-old winger spent last season on-loan at the Scottish champions, being influential as Celtic went unbeaten all season, and BBC Sport understand he is heading to Scotland to undergo a medical.
It is thought that Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers will take Roberts in on yet another season-long loan deal, with the Manchester City owners hesitant to let the youngster leave on a permanent deal.
Roberts joined City in a £12million move from Fulham in 2015 but he’s yet to truly make an impression on the first-team, managing just three appearances in his first season spent there.
