According to reports coming from France over the past day, it is believed that Manchester City are poised to enter a bidding war with Spanish giants Barcelona to sign Ousmane Dembele this summer.
LeSport10 allege that boss Pep Guardiola is looking to beat his former side in a race to sign the extremely promising 20-year-old winger and make a big statement of intent ahead of next season.
The report also claims that Dembele was in Manchester on Monday evening to meet with the Manchester City manager, having dinner out together whilst talking over a potential switch to England.
The 20-year-old made 49 appearances during his first season in Germany and heavily impressed with his pace and trickery, scoring six times in the Bundesliga and twice in the Champions League.[interaction id=”59528c28f2d4938713c3710a”]
In other news, The Sun report that a deal for Juventus defender Dani Alves could be finalised by as soon as the end of the week, as City remain confident of securing their man.
The report claims that Manchester City’s Premier League rivals Tottenham have launched a late attempt to bring him to White Hart Lane but, as of now, the Citizens are firmly in the driving seat.
And it is thought that the 34-year-old full-back is set to finalise the legal side of things by Tuesday evening ahead of a switch to the English top-flight, with Alves having his heart set on a reunion with Guardiola.
The Brazilian will join on a two-year deal – and on a free transfer after Juventus allowed him to leave Italy – and should join up with City in time for their pre-season tour of America in July.
Lastly, the Mirror has reported this morning that Liverpool have stolen a march for Arsenal midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain after they have made a direct enquiry to the North London club.
The 23-year-old England international only has a year left on his current contract the Emirates but it is believed that negotiations on an extension to this have stalled – opening the door for other teams.
And it is thought that both Manchester City and Chelsea are keeping a keen eye on Oxlade-Chamberlain’s current situation – although it is Jurgen Klopp’s side who have tried to act fast.
Arsenal have valued him at a relatively cut-price of £25million considering the current state of the transfer market, and there’s a growing feeling around London that he’ll be elsewhere next season.
Arsene Wenger utilised Oxlade-Chamberlain as a versatile player during his experimental formations last year, using him as a central midfielder, a winger, a right-wing back and a left-wing back.
