The biggest news to come out of the Etihad on Sunday was the announcement of the signing of Danilo from Real Madrid, with Manchester City’s official website confirming his impending arrival.

The 26-year-old will arrive on a five-year deal for a fee that BBC Sport believes to be around £26.5 million, with the defender now poised to join up with Pep Guardiola’s side on their tour of America.

Speaking about the move, Danilo said: “I am very, very happy to be joining Manchester City.

“There has been strong interest from other Clubs, but it has always been my ambition to play for Pep Guardiola. As soon as I heard of his interest, I knew immediately I wanted to be a City player.

“I can’t wait to get started and I’m looking forward to getting to know my new teammates over the coming weeks.”

Manchester City face his former side Real Madrid in a friendly on Wednesday as their pre-season preparations continue but it’s unlikely that he will have acquired a work permit in time to face them.

With one defender officially unveiled, another looks like they are on the brink of moving to Manchester as Sky Sports report that Benjamin Mendy has flown to America to complete a medical.

The Monaco sensation has been heavily linked with a move to the Citizens all summer and it now appears that the 23-year-old only has the formalities to complete before being named a City player.

Sky Sports understands that a £51 million fee has been agreed between the two sides – making Mendy the Premier League’s most expensive defender ever – trumping Kyle Walker’s recent £50 million move.

The French international played an influential role in Monaco’s surprise season last year, helping them reach the Champions League semi-final before pipping Paris Saint-Germain to the Ligue 1 title.

Yet with two new defenders set to come in – along with the already announced Walker – one has found himself going through the Etihad exit door yesterday, with Aleksander Kolarov going to Roma.

Manchester City’s official website released a statement last night confirming that the veteran Serbian will move to Italy for next season on a permanent deal after seven years in the top-flight.

In his last interview before leaving, Kolarov said: “When I came in 2010, honestly, I didn’t expect to play so long. Today is the day I have to say goodbye. Everything was quick the last couple of days. For me, it’s a very sad day.

“In every part of the Club we have improved not 100 per cent but 200 per cent. Now we are a far better Club than what we were when I came. I am proud that I was part of making City the Club that it is. For me it was a great pleasure to play for this shirt.”

The 31-year-old made 244 appearances during his seven-year spell in Manchester, featuring as a centre-back at times last season under Guardiola, and he will now join up with Roma on their pre-season tour of the United States.
