The Daily Mail has alleged over the last day that Manchester City are growing in confidence that a move for Arsenal and Chile sensation Alexis Sanchez could be in the pipeline once the season finishes.
The report claims that, with tensions at Arsenal growing over the future of manager Arsene Wenger and with the top four looking more and more unlikely, Pep Guardiola is ready to pounce on the forward.
The 28-year-old only has a year left on his contract at the Emirates, and as of yet no new contract extension has been agreed between player and club with Sanchez visibly frustrated at Arsenal.
Guardiola’s previous link to Sanchez during their time at Barcelona could potentially act as a catalyst for a move – worth up to a potential £60 million – to the Etihad Stadium ahead of next season.
Sanchez has been involved in just less than 50% of Arsenal’s goals this season (18 goals, nine assists) but walked off the pitch with his head in his hands after the Gunners lost 3-0 to Crystal Palace this week.
According to reports in The Mirror, Manchester City are also considering a summer move for Barcelona’s 18-year-old wonder-kid Marc Cucurella in order to add youth to their defence next season.
With Pablo Zabaleta, Bacary Sagna and Aleksander Kolarov all in their 30s, manager Pep Guardiola has previously expressed his desire to bring in some youngsters to play in the wide defensive areas.
Cucurella is yet to sign a new deal at the La Liga giants, and it is believed that Guardiola has set his sights on securing a deal before the Catalan side think about renewing his current contract.
City could face stiff competition from Bundesliga outfit Borussia Dortmund, however, with the German side also reportedly interested in bringing the teenager into their youth system.
One man who won’t be moving to Manchester this summer is Borussia Dortmund star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, with the Manchester Evening News and the Daily Mail, who quote Sport1’s Doppelpass, reporting that the Gabon international has admitted the only clubs he would consider moving to are Barcelona and Real Madrid.
Guardiola has been a long-term admirer of Aubameyang, according to the report, but the 27-year-old has snubbed interest from the Citizens in favour of the two infamous La Liga rivals.
It’s expected that the Dortmund striker is set to leave the German side once the current season comes to a close, with an alleged £70 million price-tag put on Aubameyang.
