Manchester City round-up: £70m Sanchez bid lined up; Crystal Palace in defender pursuit; Evans latest
Tick tock, tick tock. Transfer deadline day is well and truly underway and Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is likely to be a busy man, with the Spaniard preparing a £70million do-or-die offer for Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez.
The Sun claim that, after seeing an initial £50 million bid turned down on Tuesday evening, the Manchester side will go all-out to ensure that Sanchez is announced as a City player by the end of the window.
The Chilean is currently on international duty with Chile – and is actually due to play against Paraguay 30 minutes after the 11pm deadline – but City have sent men out to force a deal through.
In the other breaking news of the morning, Crystal Palace have dropped their interest in Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho and turned their attention towards Manchester City’s Eliaquim Mangala.
BBC Sport understand that the Eagles have submitted a £23 million offer for the French centre-back as they look to get a deal completed, with Frank de Boer confident that Palace’s first bid will be accepted.
The Dutchman had been chasing after want-away Sakho for a while, having a £25 million bid turned down according to Sky Sports, but Liverpool aren’t willing to negotiate on their original £30 million valuation.
It has been made clear to Mangala that he doesn’t have a future at Manchester City under boss Guardiola after being sent on a season-long loan to Valencia last year, and a move now appears imminent.
With potential for one defender to leave, BBC Sport understands (see 9:45am) that no further offer has submitted by Manchester City for West Brom centre-back Jonny Evans despite the firm interest.
The report details that Manchester City saw an initial bid of £18million rejected last week but, since then, there has been no indication as to whether they are going to meet Evans’ £30million price tag.
The Telegraph believe that City’s hesitancy to commit to a deal has left the door wide open for Arsenal to pounce, with the Gunners – along with Leicester City – both seeing offers of around £25 million rejected.
The 29-year-old has touched down at Manchester airport this morning but only to join up with his Northern Ireland team-mates as they train at City’s Football Academy ahead of tomorrow’s qualifier.
