Reports emanating this morning have suggested that Manchester City are edging ever closer to securing a deal for want-away Tottenham and England right-back Kyle Walker.
The Daily Star have claimed that influential people at the Etihad are confident that a move will be agreed in the upcoming weeks, with talks between City and Tottenham already having taken place.
It is believed that City are happy to meet the £40 million evaluation that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has set, and a move worth £100,000-per-week is not far off completion.
The Independent reported last month that tempers between the 26-year-old and boss Mauricio Pochettino have been frayed in recent times, and that a fall-out has left Walker seeking a new team.
Kieran Trippier was preferred to Walker for the North London derby with Arsenal and the FA Cup semi-final defeat to Chelsea and it was claimed that his fitness has become a dividing issue at Spurs.
Despite this, the Tottenham right-back was still named in the PFA team of the year after another impressive campaign, helping his side push Chelsea all the way in the race for the Premier League.
Meanwhile, according to reports in the Daily Mail, Manchester City’s out-of-favour attacker Nolito is reportedly on the brink of a move back to Spain with Sevilla upping their interest.
The 30-year-old struggled to break into the first team during Pep Guardiola’s first season in charge at the Etihad, and with Gabriel Jesus and Sergio Aguero preferred in attack it’s believed Nolito is set for an exit.
The report claims that the Citizens are more than happy for the Spanish international to move back to his home country, as long as Sevilla pay his wages in full.
Nolito appeared in 11 of City’s first 13 Premier League games this season, scoring three times, but has only featured eight times since the beginning of December.
Aside from transfer news, Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany is set to join up with the Belgium national side for the first time in two years for their upcoming games.
After finding himself plagued with injuries in the past two seasons, the 31-year-old has been rewarded for a strong end to the season with a call-up against the Czech Republic and Estonia.
Kompany returned to the City starting line-up for the loss to Chelsea back in early April before featuring in nine of their last ten Premier League games, impressing as his side made the top four.
Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, he said:
“It’s important for me to be back in this team. I understand that there were doubts about me, but I know my level.
“The 2018 World Cup was always a big motivation for me, especially when I was down. There’s a big chance that it will be my last season with Belgium.”
The veteran centre-back played a leading role as City secured their Champions League status on the final day of the season, consolidating affairs at the back since returning from injury.
