Manchester City round-up: Sanchez latest; midfielder's Stoke switch in the balance; Bony nears Swansea return

Manchester City’s pursuit of Alexis Sanchez is definitely heating up and the latest update is that Raheem Sterling will not be offered as part of a swap deal that would see the Chilean move clubs.

Sky Sports have reported this morning that the England winger, who was wanted by Arsenal to formulate part of a deal for Sanchez, will not be leaving the Etihad this summer no matter what.

This comes the day after Manchester City had an initial offer of £50 million – as reported by Sky Sports – turned down for Sanchez, with boss Pep Guardiola increasing his efforts to bring him in.

It is now understood that Guardiola was never interested in a Sanchez/Sterling swap deal, as Sky Sports had claimed yesterday morning, and that the Blues are committed to completing a cash only deal.

Meanwhile, Stoke City manager Mark Hughes could finish the transfer window with a flourish as reports from the Daily Mail earlier today claim they have revived their interest in Manchester City’s Fabian Delph.

Local news outlet the Stoke Sentinel had claimed just last month that Delph was starting to lose interest in a switch to Stoke but, with little interest from elsewhere, he’s warmed to the idea of a move again.

It has been made clear to the 27-year-old that he is surplus to requirements under Pep Guardiola in Manchester and it looks like a move away is needed in order to resurrect his Premier League career.

It is understood that a move for Delph – who has managed just 40 appearances in two years at the Etihad following a string of injuries – could be completed before the deadline if a bid of £10 million is submitted.

Yet, contrary reports coming from the Telegraph later in the afternoon claim that Delph is more than happy to fight for a first-team role at the Etihad next season and, as such, will turn down Stoke’s offer.

Another squad player edged closer to an Etihad exit on Wednesday afternoon as, according to reports in the Mirror, Wilfried Bony is on the brink of returning to former side Swansea City.

The report understands that the Swans are prepared to fork out £13million for the Ivorian, who scored 35 goals in 70 games in his first spell at the Liberty, just two years after selling him to City for £28 million.

Since arriving in Manchester it’s been a struggle for Bony, who has always seemingly been far down the pecking order behind Edin Dzeko, Sergio Aguero, Stevan Jovetic and Gabriel Jesus, and Guardiola made it clear that he has no future in the City side after loaning him out to Stoke City during last season.
