Manchester City reportedly to be offered Napoli midfielder Fabian Ruiz
Manchester City will reportedly be offered Napoli midfielder Fabian Ruiz this summer, with PSG and Atletico Madrid also interested in the Spanish international.
According to Napoli Magazine, club owner Aurelio De Laurentiis is keen to rebuild the Serie A giants. This week the southern Italy side missed out on UEFA Champions League qualification on the final day of the league season.
Manager Gennaro Gattuso has already been dismissed from his role as reported by the Athletic, and multiple players could follow the Italian coach.
Ruiz is one such name who could leave, with Napoli ready to offer the midfielder to multiple clubs this summer for a fee of €60m (£51.6m). City have been linked with the 25-year-old Spaniard before as reported by Corriere dello Sport via Sport Witness, along with the likes of FC Barcelona and Real Madrid.
The Spanish midfielder is highly rated, with former Barcelona manager Quique Setien labelling Ruiz as ‘spectacular’ in an interview with Goal.
City are likely to be active in the transfer window this summer. Pep Guardiola is likely to identify a replacement for Sergio Aguero, as well as a potential long-term successor for Fernandinho. The Brazilian’s contract expires at the end of this season.
TBR View: Ruiz could replace Fernandinho for years to come
Established as one of the top deep-lying central midfielders in Italy, Ruiz has all the tools to flourish under Guardiola at City.
The former Real Betis star is suited to playing at the base of the midfield in a 4-3-3 following Gattuso’s time with Napoli, and with Fernandinho coming towards the end of his time with City, Ruiz could be the ideal man to step in and replace the Brazilian international.
Ruiz’s time with the Spain national team could also make the transition from Napoli to City a seamless one. La Roja base their style on an adaptation of Guardiola’s great Barcelona team that ruled the world a decade ago.
