Manchester City are reportedly eyeing Danny Ings, a player who Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has previously described as “wonderful”.
Sergio Aguero’s future at the Etihad Stadium is under major doubt, with his contract set to expire at the end of the season.
Should City’s record goalscorer leave in the summer, identifying a suitable replacement will become one of Pep Guardiola’s top priorities.

Sky Sports claims that City’s search includes all of the world’s top centre-forwards, including Borussia Dortmund star Erling Braut Haaland.
However, given the Norwegian’s market value is said to be £100million, Ings has reportedly been identified as a more attainable option by the Premier League frontrunners.
The Southampton striker scored 22 Premier League goals last season, only beaten to the Golden Boot by Leicester City star Jamie Vardy.
This season, Ings has registered eight league goals and three assists from 22 top-flight appearances.
In addition, the 28-year-old is about to enter the final year of his £75,000-a-week deal and has so far not agreed to sign new terms that have been on offer for some time.
Ings is a talented player whose time at Liverpool didn’t quite go to plan, but Klopp was nonetheless a big fan of the striker.
“Apart from the games against us, we cannot wish him any better,” he told Goal.com ahead of the game between Ings’ Saints and the Reds at Anfield a year ago.
“He is such a wonderful person. He didn’t have enough game time here for some good reasons and the decision he made to go to Southampton was perfect.
“He needed time to get his rhythm back and now he is on fire, a bit like their whole team.”
