Manchester City Player Ratings: How did Pep Guardiola’s side rate as they were held by Middlesbrough?

Jesus Navas – 6

Often found himself in space down the right-hand side but was too wasteful too many times, guilty of releasing the pressure too easily. Was caught miles out of position for Boro’s opener, allowing Downing all sorts of space to run into, and didn’t add much to his side’s second-half push.

Aleix Garcia – 6

Making his first Premier League start, he found it hard to impose himself on the game as the hosts’ high-press caused issues. Substituted after the break for more attacking personnel.

Fernandinho 7

Broke up play well in the middle of the pitch on numerous occasions as the hosts played with a surprising level of confidence. Will be frustrated he couldn’t reach Negredo in time for the opening goal but he was a big part of City’s second-half onslaught, roaming further forward.

Kevin de Bruyne – 6

Playing in behind the two strikers in an advanced midfield position, after a slow opening half he burst into life and was once again important to City’s efforts in the final third. Had a few wild attempts at goal but played second-fiddle to Sane and Aguero during the second-half.

Gael Clichy – 6

Playing as a left-wing back he got forward well, joining the attack at every available opportunity as the visitors looked to attack with numbers. Had little impact though and made way for Sane after half-time as Guardiola seeked a direct approach to get his side back into the game.
