Manchester City player can duplicate Phil Foden next season – TBR View

If you consider the amount of talent there is within the Manchester City squad right now, manager Pep Guardiola could arguably field two separate starting XI’s that could both compete for the Premier League title.

One player who would be part of the second string is Ferran Torres.

Torres, 21, has enjoyed a strong first season at the Etihad Stadium since his move from Valencia, and has gone through the Guardiola process of being eased into the fold at times.

The £21million (BBC) attacker has a superb return of 10 goals in 33 appearances across all competitions, but hasn’t really been selected yet in many of the high-profile fixtures.

It’s certainly not a negative mark against the Spain international, as adapting to Guardiola’s demands can be testing early on. The Spanish boss likes to integrate his players over time, and many of his current stars have taken a couple of years to really peak under him.

Torres can take massive heart from an encouraging first campaign so far, but perhaps there should be much more to come going into next season. He should look at teammate Phil Foden as someone he can duplicate next year.

20-year-old attacker Foden was used by Guardiola in the past two seasons in a similar way to Torres right now, dropping in and out of the starting XI to gain experience.

However, England international Foden has really matured by becoming a key player this season that seems inevitable to play in the top fixtures, scoring 14 goal and supplying 10 assists across all competitions so far.

He’s a unique talent now shining on the elite stage, but Guardiola was thoughtful with his progression.

Torres certainly falls into the category of a dazzling young player with pace, skill and energy. For him, he’s on the right road to becoming a star with Man City, and should have faith in the manage.
