Manchester City extended their lead at the top of the Premier League table by comfortably beating Southampton on Wednesday evening – and some of the club’s fans on Twitter picked out their defender Oleksandr Zinchenko as a huge positive.

Pep Guardiola’s side responded to the defeat against Manchester United by winning 5-2 against Southampton at the Etihad Stadium.

Man City are now 14 points clear of second-placed Man United having played one game more.

It was an attacking masterclass at times from the league leaders, as they flexed their muscles going forward.

Kevin De Bruyne (two), Riyad Mahrez (two) and Ilkay Gundogan were all on the scoresheet, albeit Southampton chalked two goals up through James Ward-Prowse and Che Adams.

They travel to Fulham next on Saturday, before attention turns to the Champions League last 16 against Borussia Monchengladbach.

A selection of Man City supporters on social media believe that Zinchenko was someone who deserved a special mention for his midweek contribution.

The 24-year-old left-back spent a lot of time pushed forward, where he was involved in some great patterns of play and was a constant option.

He’s one of the underrated members of the squad that isn’t talked about like so many of the star names, but consistently delivers at least 7/10 performances.
