Manchester City fans react to Luka Modric transfer reports
A number of Manchester City fans have taken to Twitter to react to reports from El Nacional claiming that Pep Guardiola is eyeing a move for Luka Modric next summer.
Modric turned 36 on Thursday. But he continues to remain a key player for both club and country. He showed flashes of sheer brilliance while with Croatia at Euro 2020 this summer.
His contract with Real Madrid is set to expire at the end of the campaign. And it seems that he could be offered the chance to move to the Etihad Stadium.
According to El Nacional, both DC United and Inter Miami have made approaches for the midfielder in recent years.
And the report claims that City are now eyeing a move for the end of the season when he will become a free agent.
It is suggested that a move could appeal to Modric, who is keen to play in Major League Soccer at some stage. So joining the Cityzens would pave the way for a future switch to New York City FC.
Modric continues to impress well into the twilight of his career. It must not be forgotten that he won the Ballon d’Or at the age of 33 back in 2018.
‘It’s not happening’: Manchester City fans react to Luka Modric reports
Understandably, amongst most of the reaction to the reports amongst City fans on social media is a sense of shock.
They cannot see Guardiola signing Modric next summer given his age. But some have drawn comparisons with the move for Frank Lampard back in 2014 when the Englishman was getting close to hanging up his boots.
With that in mind, here is how some of Manchester City fans have reacted to the reports…
Uhmmm, it’s not happening. https://t.co/0EI611pjTz

It’s definitely not true but imagine a midfield of De Bruyne, Modric and Gundogan 😂 we’d have like 90% possession every game ffs
