Manchester City fans react on Twitter to Joao Cancelo’s display

A number of Manchester City fans have taken to Twitter to react to Joao Cancelo’s performance as Pep Guardiola’s men won the opening leg of their Champions League last 16 tie against Borussia Monchengladbach.

The Cityzens will take a 2-0 lead into the rematch with the Bundesliga side next month. Bernardo Silva broke the deadlock with a superb header just before the half-hour mark.

Gabriel Jesus doubled the lead from close range during the midway point in the second-half.

In truth, City were in control for the large majority of the game. Marco Rose’s side gave Ederson virtually nothing to do.

The Premier League leaders will therefore, be content with their evening’s work. And one player who can be particularly pleased with his performance will be Cancelo.

The 26-year-old produced a sumptuous cross for Bernardo’s goal. And it was his ball into the box that allowed his countryman to set up Jesus for City’s second.

‘I’m in love’

As shown by Whoscored.com, no player on either side made a greater number of successful dribbles than Cancelo. Meanwhile, he also managed a couple of interceptions when their opponents did threaten to cause problems.

Cancelo – who earns £80,000-a-week, according to Spotrac – is enjoying a fantastic season at the Etihad Stadium. And plenty of supporters felt that he was a standout performer on a very impressive night from City.
