Manchester City fans react as Tottenham reportedly turned down chance to sign Ruben Dias last summer
Daniel Levy reportedly turned down the chance to sign Ruben Dias for Tottenham Hotspur last summer. The centre-back moved to Manchester City a little under 12 months ago from Benfica. He has since become a pivotal member of City’s side – and City fans have reacted to the report.
Dias, 24, has been simply stunning for Manchester City. Since joining Pep Guardiola’s side, he has clocked up 50 appearances for the Cityzens. In that time, the Portugal international helped City keep a whopping 28 clean sheets – and win both the Premier League title and the Carabao Cup.
It was a season that although was brilliant for City, but it could have been so much better – losing both the FA Cup semi-final and Champions League final. But it could have been a whole lot different for Dias. The Mail claim Spurs had the option to buy Dias for a figure of £50million.
What are Manchester City fans saying about Dias being offered to Tottenham?
However, Daniel Levy chose not to sign him. Instead, he moved to City and he has since been a Premier League sensation. So much so, that he is a real contender to win Player of the Season and some pundits have even suggested he is better than Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk.
Spurs certainly need a defender, but they could’ve done with one when Dias was offered. Davinson Sanchez has become incredibly error-prone – making a mistake that resulted in a goal pretty much every game. Eric Dier and Toby Alderweireld are inconsistent. City fans responded to the report.
