Manchester City fans react as club reportedly battling Arsenal for Ryan Bertrand

Manchester City have reportedly opened talks to sign Southampton left-back Ryan Bertrand but face competition from Arsenal, AC Milan and AS Monaco for the soon-to-be free agent – and City fans have reacted on Twitter to the reports.

Bertrand, 31, is renowned as one of the Premier League’s most-consistent left-sided defenders but Goal claim that the Champions League winner has decided to turn down the chance to extend his contract with Southampton. A move is likely.

The report states that Arsenal and European clubs are in talks to sign Bertrand, as are Manchester City. Pep Guardiola’s side could do with a left-back as Benjamin Mendy continues to struggle and Oleksandr Zinchenko’s form remains inconsistent.

Bertrand offers both Premier League experience and boosts Man City’s need for homegrown players. Bertrand – who currently earns £70,000 a week at Southampton, as per Spotrac – would save City a whole lot of money to spend elsewhere on the squad.

Man City fans have reacted on Twitter to the news that Bertrand could be on his way to the Etihad this summer, and many believe it would be a smart move to lure Bertrand to Guardiola’s side as cover on the left – with another European campaign on the horizon.
