Manchester City are reportedly interested in signing Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen as the race for the out-of-contract Belgium international begins to hot up – and City supporters have reacted on Twitter.
Vertonghen, 33, is available on a free at the end of the season – despite extending his contract with Spurs for the remainder of the 2019-20 campaign. It seems unlikely Tottenham will offer him a deal beyond the end of this term.
The former Ajax defender has been at Tottenham for the past eight years, clocking up 314 appearances in all competitions for the north London club. He has been strongly linked with moves to both Italy and Spain.

Now, The Telegraph claim Pep Guardiola and Manchester City have joined the race for Vertonghen – with Ajax, Real Betis, Sevilla, Roma and Inter Milan all interested in landing the left-footed centre-back.
Manchester City are keen to bring in an experienced defender as a replacement for Vincent Kompany – something which Guardiola failed to last summer. Vertonghen would also offer short-term cover at left-back.
Manchester City supporters reacted on Twitter to the reported news that they could lure the experienced Belgian to The Etihad in the coming months – and some believe he would be a good signing for Guardiola’s men.
