Manchester City fans hail Ilkay Gundogan for performance in 4-3 Newcastle United win

Manchester City recorded a dramatic 4-3 win at St James’ Park on Friday night – and some of the club’s fans on Twitter picked out their midfielder Ilkay Gundogan for huge praise after his display.

Man City were in action tonight in their first game since being named Premier League champions, which was a seven-goal thriller against Newcastle United.

Pep Guardiola’s side earned three points in the league fixture, and it was Ferran Torres who was their match-winner thanks to his hat-trick to go along with a deflected strike from Joao Cancelo.

Man City did concede three times against a front-footed Newcastle side whose goalscorers were Emil Krafth, Joelinton and Joe Willock.

However, Guardiola watched is side come out on top due to their extra bit of quality in the final third.

They now have two league games remaining before they can officially lift the title, and afterwards have a huge showdown against Chelsea in the Champions League final.

Despite the hat-trick heroics from Torres, a selection of Man City supporters on social media believe Gundogan was yet again a shining light for them.

The 30-year-old German midfielder has been so influential in the title-winning campaign, and he grabbed an assist against Newcastle.

He’s scored 16 goals across all competitions this campaign and didn’t quite have his shooting boots on tonight, but totally bossed the game in possession in the centre of the park.
