Kelechi Iheanacho scored an excellent hat-trick on Sunday afternoon as Leicester City took advantage of Sheffield Uniteds’s turmoil by winning 5-0 at the King Power – and Manchester City fans have applauded the Nigerian ace.
The 24-year-old attacker was sold by Manchester City to Leicester in the summer of 2017 for £25milllion (BBC), but since that move, he has been somewhat of a bit-part player – given that Jamie Vardy has remained first choice.
On Sunday, he was given the chance to start up front alongside Vardy having scored goals in Leicester’s previous two fixtures – a 1-1 draw with Burnley and a 2-1 victory over Brighton. It paid off for Brendan Rodgers.
The 23-time Nigeria international – who scored 21 goals in 64 appearances during his time at Manchester City – put the Blades to the sword. Sheffield United were still seemingly reeling from the departure of manager Chris Wilder.

It was Iheanacho that eventually opened the scoring, latching on to an inch-perfect low cross from Vardy to tap home the opener just before the half-time break. But in the second half, the Foxes were rampant – eventually winning 5-0.
Ayoze Perez scored an excellent second goal for the Foxes, lashing an effort home from 18 yards. It was 3-0 when Varcy found Iheanacho again, laying a beautiful pass in behind the Blades defence and Iheanacho obliged.
But the best of the lot came when Iheanacho was afforded time and space 20 yards from goal, and he lashed a left-footed drive into the bottom corner past Aaron Ramsdale. There was still time for Vardy to score, late on.
A brilliant performance from the Foxes, who strengthened their claims for a finish in the Champions League slots. Opening up a five-point gap on fourth-placed Chelsea, Leicester are now in a solid position to finish in the top four.

City, meanwhile, sit pretty at the top but this summer is likely to be a busy one for the Premier League elect. A new striker might be on the agenda, with Sergio Aguero’s contract expiring in the summer.
Gabriel Jesus is hardly seen as the long-term answer, though he has impressed at times this season. Borussia Dortmund powerhouse Erling Haaland is linked, while City are said to be long-term admirers of Harry Kane.
It remains to be seen if Aguero will be handed a new deal. The Argentine scored his first Premier League goal of the season over the weekend, as Pep Guardiola’s side scored in a 3-0 win over Fulham on Saturday.
Iheanacho has taken his stats to 10 goals in 27 games for Leicester – in which he has only started 14 of those, and completed 90 minutes on just five occasions. His future this summer could also be up in the air.
Indeed, City supporters have suggested that their club look to bring the African speedster back to The Etihad following his hat-trick – with one fan even suggesting a swap deal with Jesus.
