Manchester City fans discuss Harry Kane’s performance on Sunday afternoon

Harry Kane went within just 20 goals of England’s record goalscorer Wayne Rooney on Sunday afternoon as England beat Albania 2-0 away from home – and Manchester City fans raved about the Tottenham Hotspur striker on Twitter.

England secured a second win from two games on Sunday in Albania, as they got their 2022 World Cup qualifying campaign off to a perfect start. The Three Lions gained another three points, after beating San Marino 5-0 last week.

A much stronger England side was named on Sunday and Kane excelled. In a match where Albania – renowned for being strong at the back but offering little going forward – Kane was the difference during the 2-0 win.

The England skipper opened the deadlock with the first-half’s only bit of magic, wrestling with an Albania defender and getting the better of him to flick a brilliant header into the far corner from Luke Shaw’s cross from the left.

It was 2-0 in the second half when Raheem Sterling won the ball back high up the pitch, and Kane fed Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount who finished superbly – lofting the ball over the onrushing Albania goalkeeper.

It took Kane to 33 goals in his 52 caps for England and still only 27, the England skipper looks more than likely to go on and eclipse the likes of Gary Lineker, Bobby Charlton and Wayne Rooney – with the latter on 53 goals.

It is an astonishing achievement and certainly, it is more proof that Kane has proved just as creative as he has prolific this season. His goal and assist on Sunday mirrors his Tottenham form – 27 goals and 16 assists in 40 games.

That incredible form has not gone unnoticed. With Spurs struggling in the league, sitting in sixth place, and failing to win the Europa League after defeat to Dinamo Zagreb – Kane’s future is in the balance. He might be tempted to go.

Before the match against Albania, he told Sky Sports: “I’m fully focused on doing the job on the pitch from now until the end of the summer, and then we’ll see where we go from there.”

Kane has constantly attracted interest from the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid – with both likely to be after a centre-forward this summer. Juventus have been linked, while Mauricio Pochettino might want him at PSG.

But more recently, Manchester City have been strongly linked as Pep Guardiola’s side look for a replacement for Sergio Aguero who is out of contract in June. Even if Aguero stays, he is certainly past his excellent best.

The Manchester Evening News claim that Kane is a target for Manchester City – labelling him the ‘perfect’ replacement for Aguero this summer. Erling Haaland has also been linked with a move to The Etihad soon.

Man City fans reacted to Kane’s excellent performance, in which he had a hand in both goals, for England on Sunday and many want him signed – especially as Kane combined with City attackers Phil Foden and Sterling.
