Manchester City fans have taken to Twitter to applaud Pep Guardiola on his comments on the proposed European Super League which was revealed on Sunday via the club’s official website.
Speaking to the press ahead of tomorrow’s Premier League clash against Aston Villa, the City manager revealed that the concept of a closed-league competition was one that didn’t appeal to him, with Guardiola saying that such a competition would be unfair for teams that climb their way up the footballing pyramid.

Since the announcement, criticism of a European Super League has been wide-ranging and dense, with players, coaches and fans all coming out to express their distaste in such an idea, and following Guardiola’s comments this afternoon, plenty of Manchester City fans took to social media to praise their manager for what he had to say on the proposed competition.

Guardiola is the first manager from a top-six side to be fully against a European Super League since the announcement on Sunday, yet his comments could lead to more figures at clubs coming out against the concept.
