Report: Guardiola monitoring two Arsenal targets with Erling Haaland deal in balance

Arsenal have their eyes on a new striker either this month or in the summer, but Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola might end up playing a major part in who the Gunners do get.

That’s because according to The Athletic, City and Guardiola are monitoring both Dusan Vlahovic and Alexander Isak as potential alternatives to Erling Haaland. The Dortmund striker is expected to be on the move this summer, with City among a cluster of big clubs keen on the Norwegian.

However, City are also drawing up plans in case they miss out on Haaland. And those plans include both Vlahovic and Isak, who are both on the radar of Arsenal. Vlahovic, in particular, is a man in-demand. Juventus, Arsenal and Tottenham are all said to be vying for his signature. However, it is believed the Gunners do have a strong position, should Fiorentina sell Vlahovic this month.

City’s interest could throw a huge spanner in the works for Arsenal. Despite the Gunners being willing to spend, City are hard to turn down. As is the lure of playing for Guardiola.

Why Do Footballers Demand Higher Wages?

TBR’s View: Arsenal Always Likely To Face Competition For Isak And Vlahovic

If you’re in the market for players who are highly-rated, then you’re going to face competition. That’s just how the realms of football work in terms of the transfer market.

Sadly for Arsenal, City are a problem here. Anyone signing for City is going to be basically guaranteed to be the new number nine and play every week. Plus, the fact City can offer huge wages and chances at success.

It seems like the Gunners have tracked Vlahovic for absolutely ages. If they missed out on him to City, it would definitely sting a tad. Likewise with Isak, to be honest. The good news is that City won’t sign both. But that could leave Arsenal getting the scraps, rather than their main target.
