Derby County goalkeeper Scott Carson is the subject of a surprise loan bid from Premier League champions Manchester City, according to The Sun.
The former England stopper is 34 next month and Pep Guardiola wants him to provide cover for Ederson and Claudio Bravo.
According to Sky Sports (Live Blog, August 8, 08:28), Carson is due at City this morning for a medical.
Carson has fallen down the pecking order at Derby behind young Dutchman Kelle Roos. He wasn’t even included on the bench for Monday’s first game of the season at Huddersfield.
The report suggests that Carson sees the chance to join City for a season as a dream move and Derby are not willing to stand in his way.
One aspect that the experienced goalkeeper does improve for City is their homegrown quota.
This move comes after the Premier League champions opted to loan out two other goalkeepers this summer. Aro Muric has joined Nottingham Forest, whilst Steffan signed for Dusseldorf on a temporary basis.
Carson boasts 260 Championship appearances, 145 Premier League games and also has four England caps to his name.
On the international front, he will always be remembered for his fumble in the 3-2 defeat to Croatia. It essentially cost Steve McClaren his job and England their place at Euro 2008.
Carson is certainly a safe pair of hands, however. The chance to join City doesn’t come along every day and he will relish the chance to join the club.
