Manchester City 2-1 Arsenal: Three things we learnt

Never write off Pep Guardiola

It would be fair to say that the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich man has come in for a bit of criticism this week. With the huge pressure on his shoulders, seeing his side go behind with a fairly woeful first half display would have done little to brighten his mood in the last fixture before Christmas.

But after half-time he turned things around. Tactical adjustments saw Kevin de Bruyne and Rajeev Sterling swap to allow the Belgian to go central and the ex-Liverpool man to go wide and it worked perfectly.

The Manchester outfit had four of their five shots on target all in the second 45 and they finally seemed to have some substance to their attack which got forward with power and pace. There’s no doubting the quality of their attack, even without Sergio Agüero, but Guardiola must be credited for turning things around with a tactical rejig.
