Manchester City’s defence still has work to do

It took just four minutes for Arsenal to break the deadlock and take the lead and they did so with ease. Breaking forward with quick, flowing football, in three passes the Gunners went from defending to scoring without really coming under any pressure.

Nicolas Otamendi in particular could be held responsible as he got his positioning all wrong to allow Theo Walcott the time and space to burst past him and open the scoring. With John Stones dropped to the bench, Aleksander Kolarov and Otamendi did little to convince.

Fortunately, the Citizens’ attack bailed them out with a good second half display, and Arsenal failed to take advantage of some questionable defending, but those same concerns will remain for Pep Guardiola.
