Manager who Manchester United, Chelsea and West Ham all spoke to now wins Coach of the Month at new club

Manchester United, Chelsea and West Ham United were all hunting for new managers during the summer.

The Red Devils eventually decided to keep Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford despite finishing eighth in the Premier League last season, whereas Chelsea poached Enzo Maresca from Leicester City and West Ham United replaced David Moyes with Julen Lopetegui.

Now – however – a manager who Manchester United, Chelsea and West Ham United all held talks with has been named Coach of the Month at his new club…

Hansi Flick wins Coach of the Month award at Barcelona

After a stunning start to life at Barcelona, Hansi Flick has been named La Liga Coach of the Month for August.

The German guided Barcelona to three consecutive 2-1 wins against Valencia, Athletic Bilbao and Rayo Vallecano, before a resounding 7-0 victory over Valladolid put the icing on the cake.

It comes after sources informed TBR Football back in May that Manchester United, Chelsea and West Ham United had all spoken to Flick about becoming their new manager.

Clearly, the 59-year-old has made a strong return to club football, after a tough time in charge of Germany which led to his sacking on 10th September 2023.

Interestingly, Liverpool also considered hiring Flick before appointing Arne Slot.

Manchester United should have hired the German

It remains to be seen whether Chelsea and West Ham United will be stronger now Mauricio Pochettino and Moyes have moved on, as it is still very early days.

However – just three games into the 2024/25 campaign – it is already clear that little has changed under Ten Hag at Manchester United, after disappointing defeats to Brighton and Liverpool showed similar errors to that of last season, such as regular turnovers of possession in dangerous areas.

Of course, Flick has never managed in the Premier League, and nobody knows if the German could sort Manchester United out, but it was worth giving the man from Heidelberg a chance rather than sticking with Ten Hag, who has failed to coach a clear tactical identity into the Red Devils since arriving in April 2022.

Hopefully, the Dutchman can turn things around at Old Trafford.
