Manager says he feels privileged to work with Tottenham on-loan gem, he's 'unbelievable'
Tottenham Hotspur striker Dane Scarlett has received yet more praise from Portsmouth boss Danny Cowley.
The Spurs talent is currently on loan at the south coast club, where he’s making a real name for himself.
Though it took Scarlett a few games to find his feet, he now has four goals and an assist in his last five games.
Indeed, the Tottenham prodigy found the back of the net in the win over Burton week, but it was disallowed.
Nonetheless, Scarlett delivered an impressive display, with local outlet The News giving him 8 out of 10.
‘Never afraid to put himself about and never shirks a challenge,’ they wrote.
‘Unfortunate to have a goal ruled out after adjudged to have fouled defender in build-up.’
On Wednesday, Sky Sports published an interview with Cowley, and he lauded the Spurs gem.
“Dane is a fantastic young player,” said the Pompey manager.
“He has an unbelievable level of competence and as a consequence, has a real confidence in himself, and rightly so.
“I always think, with young players, however talented they are, they must make sure their work ethic matches their talent.
“Then if they can do that, they will achieve the potential that their talent deserves.
“Dane has to work exceptionally hard as a consequence of where his talent is at.
“But the fact that he loves the game and has such a desire to want to improve on a daily basis is great to see.
“It’s a privilege for Nicky and I to wake up every morning and work with a player of his quality.”
For an 18-year-old to have already made 10 senior appearances for his Premier League club is quite a feat.
But Scarlett is still far from the finished product and has an incredibly high ceiling.
Tottenham fans will no doubt be keeping tabs on how he continues to develop at Pompey – so far, so good.
And over the coming years, it’ll be exciting to see how he develops as a player at N17.
