Man Utd reportedly plan last ditch attempt to sign Arsenal target

According to the Daily Express, Manchester United will look to hi-jack a potential deal for Porto’s Jackson Martinez. The 28-year-old has attracted considerable attention, following a campaign in which he scored an impressive 28 goals in 38 appearances.

The Colombian striker is set to leave Porto this summer for a club willing to meet his £25 million release clause, and for the Old Trafford outfit – whose forwards largely underperformed last term – this presents a very affordable price. United manager Louis van Gaal will make a shock move for the forward, which would undoubtedly clash with interest from elsewhere.

AC Milan were thought to be in the driving seat to land Martinez’s after talks between the player’s agent and the club’s vice-president Adriano Galliani, while Arsenal are reportedly posing very strong interest – Arsene Wenger is known to be a huge fan of the prolific goalscorer.

Milan’s vice-president, Adriano Galliani yesterday revealed that negotiations are ongoing and that the player could yet choose one of the other offers on the table, which could leave the door open for Manchester United. According to the Metro, the Red Devils will offer the Porto star a lucrative contract, worth £56,000-a-week. Watch this space.
