Man Utd could hijack deal for £11m man despite agreement with Tottenham

Manchester United are looking for defensive reinforcements ahead of the summer transfer window.

A younger alternative to Harry Maguire is seemingly on the agenda, after the England international was only offered a contract extension running until the end of next season – by which point he will be 34 years of age.

The 29-year-old Marcos Senesi is someone Manchester United are monitoring, and Ben Jacobs now claims the Red Devils are still showing interest despite his agreement with Tottenham.

Tottenham have already reached an agreement with the Argentina international – who moved to England in a £10.5m switch from Feyenoord in August 2022 – after it was announced he will leave Bournemouth when his contract expires this summer.

However, that is contingent on Spurs staying in the Premier League. The north Londoners are currently two points above the relegation zone with two games to play.

Should West Ham find a way to salvage the situation and send Tottenham down, Manchester United – who also want Jeremy Monga – could hijack the deal for Senesi.

Jacobs wrote on X (previously known as Twitter): “Bournemouth confirm Marcos Senesi will leave as a free agent. Club have known about the departure since last year and both parties agreed on no January exit.

“Spurs already have an agreement on terms with Senesi if they stay up. Manchester United have shown interest, while Liverpool yet to decide whether to make a move. Could be contingent on whether Ibrahima Konate remains.”

Senesi has enjoyed a superb 2025/26 campaign with Bournemouth, making 35 Premier League appearances – providing five assists from the centre of defence – as the Cherries amazingly sit sixth at the time of writing.

Should Aston Villa win the UEFA Europa League and finish inside the top five, then sixth place would even be enough to secure UEFA Champions League football, which would be a remarkable achievement by Bournemouth.

Therefore, Senesi should prove to be a wonderful addition to Manchester United – who almost signed James Rodriguez many moons ago – should the Red Devils manage to hijack his agreement with Spurs.
