Man United now interested in signing ‘one of the best strikers in the world’

A new era is about to begin at Manchester United.

Ruben Amorim flew into Manchester on Monday to start his reign as the new head coach, taking over from interim boss Ruud van Nistelrooy.

Amorim has penned a deal running through until 2027 and is already plotting his January transfer business.

Amorim wants to sign Marcus Edwards from Sporting as well as teammates Goncalo Inacio and Pedro Goncalves.

It remains to be seen if he’ll be able to bring one of his former players to Old Trafford but a fresh rumour linking the club to a striker in France has now emerged.

Man United interested in Jonathan David

According to Tutto Juve, Manchester United are showing an interest in signing Lille striker Jonathan David.

The Canada international has been in prolific form so far this season, netting 13 times in 19 outings for the Ligue 1 outfit.

David is out of contract at the end of the season and is set to become a free agent, which is alerting a number of top clubs around Europe, not just The Red Devils.

Arsenal and Liverpool are also keeping tabs on the 24-year-old’s situation, so competition for his signature is set to be rife.

David statistics compared to Rasmus Hojlund

If Man United are to sign David next year, he’ll have to get in front of Rasmus Hojlund in the pecking order at Old Trafford.

Here are how their statistics compare, as per FBref.

Stats per 90Jonathan DavidRasmus Hojlund
Non-penalty goals0.680.46
Assists0.090.08
Pass completion (%)8277.2
Progressive passes received2.543.86

Evidently, David appears slightly more polished than Hojlund and is clearly more prolific in front of goal, though, it must be noted that he’s playing in a weaker league.

Either way, his potential arrival would certainly strengthen United’s striking department and considering he’ll be a free agent, it’s a no brainer of a deal.
