Since Erik ten Hag was sacked as Manchester United manager on Monday, the club’s interest in Ruben Amorim has seemingly moved very fast.
Amorim has emerged as United’s first choice to replace Ten Hag at Old Trafford, a manager who has garnered a lot of applause at Sporting CP.
The 39-year-old was said to be in the mix for the Liverpool job this summer before Arne Slot eventually replaced Jurgen Klopp.
And were he to still be at Sporting by next summer, there’s no doubt that Amorim would be first choice for several top clubs around Europe.
Therefore, it makes sense that Man United have decided to pull the trigger on Ten Hag right now, perhaps seeing their opportunity to steal the march on Amorim.
Ruben Amorim might wait for Man City job as Marco Silva contact emerges
That being said, journalist Guillem Balague has shared an interesting update on X in that regard.
Balague said that he’s heard of a ‘new possibility’ from Portugal, one that involves Amorim going nowhere for now.
The journalist claimed that Amorim might decide to wait for the Manchester City gig if Pep Guardiola leaves.
And Balague then said that Fulham manager Marco Silva had been approached by United too.

Balague: “I hear from Portugal a new possibility. Ruben Amorim might decide to wait for City if Pep leaves. But United pushing for a deal
“And Marco Silva has also been approached by Manchester United.”
Man United’s interest in Marco Silva resurfaces after summer talk
Perhaps not the news that some United fans wanted to hear, Amorim is already a very popular name at Old Trafford.
But if a deal did fall through, it’s hard to argue with Silva’s credentials, who’s proven time and time again at Fulham that he’s a top level manager in waiting.
Some United fans might wonder if Silva is simply on par with Brentford boss Thomas Frank, who many believe would be making a step too big were he to be considered to replace Ten Hag.
Chris Sutton recently called for Silva to get the United job, a manager who certainly has the aura to manage at a top club.
It didn’t quite work out for Silva at Everton, but the 47-year-old is now more experienced and with the greatest respect to Fulham, he seems ready for the next step.
