Jesse Lingard has rejuvenated his career since leaving Manchester United for West Ham United on loan, even returning to the England fold – and Harry Maguire has sent him a message on Instagram.

Maguire, 28, dug England out of a hole on Wednesday night as England managed to overcome a Poland side missing their star man in Robert Lewandowski. Harry Kane had scored his 34th England goal from the penalty spot.

But a mistake from John Stones saw England lose their lead. He lost the ball on the edge of his penalty area and Jakub Molder took full advantage. However, Stones made up for it with a brilliant assist for Maguire.

His header back across the box from a corner allowed Maguire to swivel and hit a half volley into the net – past Wojciech Szczesny. Lingard featured for the last few minutes, replacing Raheem Sterling – and posted on Instagram.

Since joining West Ham, Lingard has had a hand in eight goals during his seven appearances under David Moyes. Scoring five, including a rasping effort against Arsenal, the United loanee has also laid on three assists.

His future this summer is undecided, with Manchester United potentially open to handing him another chance. He will enter the final year of his United contract and West Ham will be desperate to keep him.

Maguire commented on Lingard’s Instagram, stating it was “good to have you back” alongside an England emoji.
