‘Man of the Match’: Matt Doherty blown away by £30m player Tottenham reportedly want to sign

Tottenham Hotspur defender Matt Doherty has told the club’s official website that he was blown away by reported Spurs target Denzel Dumfries‘s display against the USMNT on Saturday.

Spurs’ struggles at right wing-back have been evident this season, with both Doherty and Emerson Royal failing to impress.

Djed Spence is yet to get an opportunity to really impress Antonio Conte having made just four appearances as a substitute this season.

Tuttosport recently claimed that Conte is eyeing a possible move for Inter Milan’s Dumfries as he aims to improve the quality of his right wing-back options. The 26-year-old has been with the Nerazzurri since last summer after completing a switch from PSV.

His move came off the back of an impressive campaign during last year’s Euros and now he’s making an impact for Holland on the biggest stage. And Doherty has certainly been impressed by the player who could reportedly replace him at Spurs.

Dumfries managed to round-off a brilliant display with a goal as Holland beat the USMNT 3-1 over the weekend.

The Inter man provided two assists before he got himself a goal and Doherty was full of praise for Dumfries’ display from right wing-back.

He said: “I felt Holland would win by two goals, nothing surprising in there really, their first goal was a great team goal, Dumfries man of the match, two assists and a goal, plays the wing-back role really well. I was very impressed with Holland.”

Doherty impressed for Spurs last season but he hasn’t got back to his best after picking up a knee injury against Aston Villa back in April.

Royal has frustrated Tottenham fans with his lack of end product in the final third, while Spence doesn’t seem to be any closer to breaking into the first-team.

Dumfries would certainly be an excellent signing for Tottenham and would represent a significant upgrade in the right wing-back position.
