Manchester City have reportedly open discussions with out-of-contract captain Fernandinho over potentially staying with the Premier League club post-retirement.
According to the Daily Mail, the Cityzens have had talks with the 36-year-old Brazilian midfielder over remaining with the Manchester side when Fernandinho decides to hang up his boots, a similar deal that was agreed upon with former player Patrick Vieira, who remained with City and became a coach shortly after retiring from football.

The same report states that the Brazilian international could sign a one-year contract extension with the club following an impressive run of form in the first-team, with Fernandinho leading the team out on Tuesday night as City claimed a 2-0 win over PSG, booking their ticket to their first-ever UEFA Champions League final.
Fernandinho is just one of two veterans in the City squad who have their current deals expire at the end of this season, though the other, Sergio Aguero, has already announced via BBC Sport that he will be leaving the club this summer, likely with a fifth Premier League title in his trophy cabinet.

TBR View: Fernandinho coaching role will be beneficial for City academy players
Former players taking up coaching roles within club’s they’re associated with is nothing new in football, yet for Fernandinho, it will be a sentimental move for City if they were able to get the veteran midfielder to remain with the club in some capacity.
The Brazilian international has been with the club for nearly eight years and has immortalised himself as a City legend during that time, and his experience and knowledge on the game will be an impressive resource for academy players looking to learn from the best and from those who know what it means to play for the Manchester club.
