If Manchester City complete the signing of Rodrygo from Real Madrid, it could be a late contender for the biggest transfer of the summer.

Liverpool have been active in the transfer market and could yet sign Alexander Isak from Newcastle, while Arsenal have added Viktor Gyokeres, Martin Zubimendi and Noni Madueke so far.

TBR Football understand that Arsenal are also interested in Rodrygo, who could cost around £100m according to reports – but will be allowed to leave Real Madrid.

So if his choices come down to a choice between Arsenal and Manchester City, Rodrygo may have to decide on the Premier League rivals in the coming weeks.

Jack Grealish could free up no.10 shirt for Rodrygo if he moves to Man City

City’s interest for Rodrygo is likely triggered by the expected exit of Jack Grealish, who is bound for Everton on a season-long loan.

Savinho is a target for Tottenham and may also leave, while James McAtee is close to sealing a permanent move to Nottingham Forest.

Those moves may fund the majority of any transfer fee for Rodrygo, and Grealish’s departure will also offer a high profile shirt number that the Brazilian could take.

Grealish took the number ten shirt from Sergio Aguero when he arrived in 2021, but his exit may leave it available again. Grealish has a contract at City until 2027.

Erling Haaland ‘confirms’ Jack Grealish loan to Everton

Erling Haaland may have confirmed Grealish’s season-long loan to Everton before the clubs officially announced it, as he posted a compilation of pictures of the pair to social media.

Erling Haaland sent an emotional post to Jack Grealish

It looked like a farewell post, and in a comment to an Everton fan account about Grealish, he replied: “Take good care of him!”

Haaland and Grealish have a close relationship off the pitch and Grealish was one of the players who helped Haaland integrate at the Etihad in 2022 when he arrived from Borussia Dortmund.

When Grealish’s loan to Everton is confirmed, there is a reported £50m option to buy the England international next summer included in the agreement.
