Man City fans react to Erling Haaland’s performance against Manchester United after another shock defeat

Manchester City suffered a remarkable collapse in their latest 2-1 defeat against Manchester United.

In the first half, Josko Gvardiol gave Pep Guardiola’s side the lead with a header from close-range.

But in the dying embers of the clash, Matheus Nunes gifted Manchester United a penalty after making a rash challenge on Amad Diallo, moments before he played a calamitous back pass to him.

Bruno Fernandes scored the equaliser before Diallo converted sooner after to hand Ruben Amorim’s side a famous win against Manchester City.

One player who had a game to forget was Erling Haaland.

The Norwegian international was on the periphery of the contest and was often pocketed by Harry Maguire.

Manchester City supporters were extremely critical of Haaland on X after his quiet display in the Manchester Derby.

One fan wrote: “Because let me tell you now, [Jeremy] Doku, [Phil Foden], [Erling] Haaland, Savinho, if this is the future of this club, then prepare for Europa League and Conference League Football.”

Another Manchester City fan sarcastically commented: “I don’t think Haaland knows the game has ended in fairness. He’s been stood there for the last 90 minutes.”

A third City supporter simply claimed: “Haaland offers nothing as usual.”

A fourth Manchester City analysed how Haaland’s movement was far too poor against Manchester United.

“We’re feeding Haaland nothing but scraps with useless out-balls against three centre-backs and two screeners in front of him, man…nut the issue is, when we get into wide areas (to create a different dimension), his body language/movement has been horrific. Needs to change.”

“We need to stop forcing the out-balls to him and attacks the flanks/try and move their screeners about with our pocket players. He needs to fix up and show some sort of grit/willingness instead of expecting stuff hand-fed on a plate for him (like he did in ’22/23).”

A fifth Sky Blues supporter wrote: “Haaland actually isn’t good at anything. He might be the worst talent to play for this club.”

“Kevin De Bruyne is 33 and he has more life in him than a 24-year-old Erling Haaland.”

A seventh Manchester City fan stated: “Haaland is never winning a Ballon d’Or.”

Another City fan pointed out how Haaland barely even looked interested during proceedings.

“Haaland looks like the injured Haaland from last season. Pocketed so far. Doesn’t look interested.”

Haaland stats against Manchester United

Haaland’s statistics made for grim reading after his display on Sunday.

The Leeds-born striker was completely nullified by Manchester United’s defence.

There is no disputing that Haaland remains one of the best strikers in the world.

However, Pep Guardiola would have demanded much more from his performance.

Simultaneously, Manchester City provided Haaland little to no service in what was an extremely blunt performance from them offensively.

The star striker will be assessing why he was as underwhelming as he was in the Manchester Derby.
