Aymeric Laporte has been selected for senior international football for the first time in his career.
The Manchester City centre-back was called up by Spain as per the Guardian for EURO 2020. Laporte had featured for France at youth level, but never made a senior appearance for his country of birth.

With Laporte coming through the Atheltic Bilbao academy, the City defender qualifies to represent Spain. And this summer will see the 26-year-old centre-back play for Luis Enrique’s side.
Laporte joins fellow City teammates Ferran Torres and Rodri for La Roja. Eric Garcia was also called up, however, the 20-year-old defender is almost certain to leave the club this summer.

And supporters of City were over the moon for Laporte to receive his first international call-up on social media.
Here’s what a handful had to say on Twitter following the announcement…

Laporte replaces Sergio Ramos in the Spain squad, who has been dropped by Enrique due to injury issues.
