Manchester City fans reckon Pep Guardiola will start an academy player likened to Kevin De Bruyne in Wednesday’s Carabao Cup trip to Huddersfield Town.

Pep Guardiola has already confirmed that he will make widescale changes for the Carabao Cup third-round trip to the John Smith’s Stadium.

Manchester City have had to deal with numerous injuries so far this season, so the midweek cup clash will act as a respite for some of their first-teamers.

City’s fringe players and academy stars will also fancy their chances of game time, and fans are excited about the prospect of seeing one youngster in particular.

Manchester City fans reckon Divine Mukasa will start vs Huddersfield

City’s academy teams have been in fine form of late, with the Under-21s winning the Premier League 2 title and the Under-18s lifting the U18 Premier League North trophy.

Divine Mukasa was one of City’s stars from their U18 team last season, registering 17 goals and 25 assists in all competitions in 2024/25.

The 18-year-old has been in and around the first-team picture this season, making three senior matchday squads in all competitions.

Interestingly, Mukasa was not in the U21s’ matchday squad to face Bolton in the EFL Trophy.

Now, City fans reckon Wednesday night will see Mukasa handed his senior debut against Huddersfield.

“Think Mfuni may be sub so Ake, Rico and Nunes get starts,” one fan wrote on X. “Mukasa most likely to start for me.”

Another supporter said: “Mukasa and Mfuni start and McAidoo and Heskey benched, but if they all start that’s even better.”

The comments kept coming, with one fan saying: “Invest in your Mukasa stocks now… baller.”

Another wrote: “Mukasa and Mfuni should both start tomorrow or at least get mins off the bench if we’re leading comfortably.

“Would be nice to see McAidoo on the bench too.”

Another said: “Mukasa and Bobb should lead the front line.”

Divine Mukasa has likened his style of play to that of Kevin De Bruyne

Mukasa boasts an exceptional range of passing, quick feet and sublime technique, all of which are reminiscent of Kevin De Bruyne.

Earlier this year, Mukasa named De Bruyne and Zinedine Zidane as his idols.

Notably, he claimed that he is similar to the six-time Premier League winner as a player.

“[De Bruyne] is similar in terms of always looking to create and score goals,” Mukasa said, as per the Manchester Evening News.

“From the times I’ve trained with them, I’ve tried to pick up as much as I can from the way he behaves, he gives everything every day.”

The same outlet has quoted City U18s coach Oliver Reiss as calling Mukasa “brilliant”, “unbelievable”, and “incredible”.
