Malachi Fagan-Walcott has posted on Twitter after agreeing terms on his first professional contract with Tottenham Hotspur after starring for the club’s Under-19 side in Europe and even the Under-23 outfit.

Still only 17 years of age, Fagan-Walcott is progressing far beyond the expected rate of growth in the Spurs academy. Despite his tender age, the centre-back is a crucial part of the Under-19 side in the UEFA Youth League.

Coming on for just 22 minutes of the opening clash against Bayern, he has since played every minute of the last four European games. He was crucial in Ryan Mason’s three-man defence on Tuesday, as Spurs kept a clean sheet and beat Olympiacos 1-0.

Not only is the England Under-17 international impressing in Mason’s side, but he has also become a regular in the reserve team. He has clocked up three appearances in Premier League 2 and he posted on Twitter after signing professional terms.

It is unclear how long Fagan-Walcott’s contract will last but it is more than deserved for a player who has a very strong chance of reaching the senior side – should he continue to stay above the line in terms of expected rate of development.

He is next likely to be in action on December 6 when Spurs take on Liverpool in Premier League 2, before a difficult trip to Germany to take on Bayern’s Under-19 side. Tottenham fans responded to Fagan-Walcott’s Tweet, applauding the teenager.

Former Spurs star Gary Stevens also responded, telling Fagan-Walcott the hard work starts now.
