Tottenham Hotspur’s under-18 team opened the new stadium on Sunday and kicked off with a 3-1 win over Southampton.

J’Neil Bennett became the first player to score at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium – a moment he will cherish for a long time.

The 17-year-old received the ball from first-team midfielder Oliver Skipp, cutting inside from the left and curling a low shot into the bottom corner.

Spurs went on to win the game comfortably. Harvey White made it 2-0 from the spot and Dilan Markanday sealed the victory after Kornelius Hansen pulled one back for Southampton.

Tottenham fans turned out in their numbers to mark the opening of the new stadium, even if it was just an under-18 game.

Many of those teenagers have never played in front of anywhere near the 28,000 plus fans who attended the match on Sunday.

That made the day even more special for Bennett, who will always go down as the first ever scorer at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Below are several tweets from Spurs fans who congratulated Bennett on his historic goal.
