'Makes zero sense': Arsenal fans react to news of Mesut Ozil's contract situation

Arsenal fans have been reacting to news this morning that the club may be willing to pay up Mesut Ozil’s contract to get him off the books.

The Mirror claims that Arsenal are working on a deal that would see Ozil finally be off the books and they are hoping to reach an agreement with the German over his apparent £18m remaining salary.

Ozil has had a nightmare season really and since Mikel Arteta took over, has dropped further down the pecking order.

A move away would seem to be in the best interests of all parties involved. Ozil earns huge sums of money while the narrative around him provides a continual distraction for Arteta and his players.

It seems then, once again, Ozil’s future is quite the talking point on Twitter, with a number of Arsenal supporters having their say on the issue.

What is the actual benefit of this? Why not just keep him in case we have a midfield injury crisis? Ideally we would sell him but it’s pointless to just pay off his contract

Doesn’t make any sense financially.. However it will atleast put an end to the conundrum.. proven player but not at the level expected of him in recent years.. add his enormous wage bill makes him the ultimate villain..

Get him off our payroll and get someone in who fits with the system we will play as clearly Arteta doesn’t fancy him in the team anymore. We’ve shown in some games vs City, Chelsea in the cup we don’t need him. If we get Ceballos for another season play him further forward no.10.
