Wolverhampton Wanderers were outplayed by Burnley at Molineux on Sunday. However, a late Raul Jimenez penalty secured a 1-1 draw for Nuno Espirito Santo’s tired-looking side.
Wolves were uncharacteristically poor. They lacked creativity and did not play with the pace or aggression that has come to be expected from the Midlands outfit in the Premier League. However, given their midweek Europa League exploits in Italy, their fatigue is somewhat understandable.
That being said, Nuno will still have been frustrated by much of what he saw against the Clarets, particularly the defensive errors committed by his side. Given the chances they were allowed to have by the home team, Burnley should have put the game beyond their reach.
Centre-back Ryan Bennett was culpable of a few mistakes. The 29-year-old struggled to cope with the visitors’ physicality and showed a lack of awareness when he headed the ball directly to a Burnley player in the build up to Ashley Barnes’ goal.
Bennett has produced a few poor performances so far this season and his place in the starting XI may well be under threat. Summer loan signing Jesus Vallejo will certainly be keen to take the Englishman’s place in the team. If Bennett’s form doesn’t improve soon then Vallejo will get his chance.
Following the match on Sunday, plenty of Wolves fans took to Twitter to criticise Bennett’s display.

Can’t believe Adama didn’t start how can you not reward our best player I’ll never know. Bennett and doc were awful. Mgw is so average. Also what formation was we playing at times? Both Neto and Mgw ended up on the right wing mind blown

Thought his goal would do him some good but MGW really struggled again. Bennett will be looking over his shoulder now, awful performance. Traore needs to start now because something is wrong with Doherty. #wwfc

Doherty is in serious danger of permanently losing his place in the side and Bennett should have already lost his. Team selection all wrong today #wwfc

Bennett is living off a single tackle against Chelsea last season. Headed it straight to the Burnley player ?
