Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to react after the Independent revealed that Raphinha has been tracked by the Reds since 2016.
What’s the story?
Well, the Independent believe Liverpool were first alerted to the 24-year-old’s talents when they scouted him at the Copa Sao Paulo in 2016.
However, ex-Chelsea star Deco and his agency D20 Sports snapped Raphinha up and and sent him to Vitoria Guimaraes in Portugal.
Since then, the Brazilian has spent time at Sporting Lisbon and Rennes.
In the summer of 2020, his and Liverpool’s paths would finally cross, but only twice a season as it was Leeds who poached him for just £17m.
Now, after scoring six goals and providing nine assists in his debut Premier League season, Raphinha is probably worth over three times that amount.
Understandably, the Liverpool fans are furious.
Liverpool waste their time as Leeds reap the rewards

What’s the point in monitoring Raphinha for five years, only to watch as he joins a fellow Premier League side for peanuts?
Surely, when Liverpool saw that Leeds had a £17m bid accepted, they should’ve been straight in there with a higher offer.
Unless the Independent‘s news is false, there’s no way Liverpool watched Raphinha for half a decade and weren’t aware of how good he is.
The South American is tall, powerful and has the stamina to run for days.

There were simply no question marks about how he would adapt to English football, from a physical point of view at least.
Liverpool should be absolutely kicking themselves.
Now, unless Leeds are relegated, Raphinha is surely out of reach, except if an eye-watering sum of offered.
For now, let’s see what the Liverpool fans on Twitter have been saying about the Independent‘s revelation…
