Maja can be ideal Weah replacement at Celtic after latest Sunderland demands

Sunderland have made a new demand if Celtic target Josh Maja is to leave this month.

According to The Scottish Sun, Sunderland will ask Celtic to take Maja back on loan until the end of the season if he leaves this month.

Maja is out of contract next summer and has rejected the opportunity to sign a new £6,000-per-week deal at The Stadium of Light.

This has alerted Celtic, who want to turn Maja into a top striker in the Scottish Premiership. And Sunderland’s latest deal could actually prove to be a perfect arrangement for the Bhoys.

This month, Brendan Rodgers has added Vakoun Issouf Bayo to his squad to provide competition for Odsonne Edouard.

At the end of the season, Weah will return to France and Celtic will need a new striker to compete with Edouard and Bayo.

Maja could be the perfect candidate, fresh from his loan spell in a familiar environment at Sunderland.

This season, the 20-year-old has scored 16 goals to spearhead Sunderland’s promotion bid and having him back on loan bolsters Jack Ross’ hopes of winning promotion.

But his long-term future could be with Celtic, who would have their ready-made replacement for Weah joining up with the team for next season.
