TBR View: £35k-p/w Arsenal ace's frustration his own fault amid demand for clarity over future
Ainsley Maitland-Niles has given an interview about his future at Arsenal, and it seems to be a frustrated one.
Speaking today, the England international demanded clarity over his future from Mikel Arteta.
He endured a tough season with the Gunners last campaign, making just 21 appearances in the first half of the term.
The 23-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at West Bromwich Albion. And despite the Midlanders’ relegation to the Championship, Maitland-Niles impressed.
However, despite his good form, he was sent a stark warning by Sam Allardyce.
The 66-year-old told the ace to not be stubborn and play where the manager tells him.
That’s been the entirety of the star’s career with Arsenal. He excels at fullback and then demands to play in midfield.
His current issues is of no ones making other than his own. If Maitland-Niles decided to get his head down and play at right-back, he’d be in Arsenal’s team week in, week out.
It seems as though he refuses to listen to where he’s told to play and as a result he found himself out on loan.
The £35k-p/w ace is an incredibly talented footballer. His performances during the 2020 FA Cup victory is a sign of how good he is when concentrating.
Maitland-Niles’ mix of energy and calmness makes him the ideal footballer. He also possesses fantastic defending in one-on-one scenarios as well as incredible pace.
The only thing lacking from his skillset is concentration and discipline. However, with extra work on the training ground, that can be sorted out in no time.
Crying and whining over the lack of clarity about your own future, whilst causing your own downfall.
Maitland-Niles finds himself in his current position for refusing to accept that he is a quite brilliant full-back.
