'Main man today': Ian Taylor wowed by one Aston Villa player's display at Brighton
Aston Villa legend Ian Taylor has lauded John McGinn after his impressive display at Brighton.
Steven Gerrard’s charges went into the game having lost their last two Premier League matches.
In the end, Villa picked up a routine victory thanks to goals from Matty Cash and Ollie Watkins.
Matty Cash opened the scoring on 17 minutes, firing home from the edge of the box.
Then, in the 68th minute, Ollie Watkins made sure of all three points with Villa’s second.
Tyrone Mings sent a superb ball over the top for the striker, who duly slammed home a confident finish.
Meanwhile, McGinn was at his tenacious best, hustling and bustling in the middle of the park to break down Brighton attacks.
As per Whoscored, the 27-year-old weighed in with three shots, including one on target, made one key pass, and won one aerial duel.
McGinn also completed one dribble and weighed in with five tackles, one interception and two clearances for Villa.
It was great to see the Scotland international doing so well after struggling for form over the last few matches.
On Instagram, McGinn admitted he “needed that” after a bad few weeks.
Taylor was one of many who responded, describing him as the “main man today”.
Villa’s win meant they climbed to 12th in the Premier League table, with 30 points from 25 games.
Up next for Gerrard’s charges is a 3pm kickoff against Southampton at Villa Park next Saturday.
