Ian Wright has told Match of the Day that Mohamed Elneny was absolutely magnificent for Arsenal in their last two games as the Gunners moved back into pole position for fourth spot in the Premier League.
Mikel Arteta’s men may have been fearing the kind of week that would see their hopes of finishing fourth dashed almost completely. They faced Chelsea and Manchester United over the last few days.

However, the Gunners have been outstanding and picked up six points. They beat Chelsea 4-2 at Stamford Bridge, and followed that with a 3-1 win over Ralf Rangnick’s men.
Their performances have been all the more impressive because they have been missing a couple of key men, with Thomas Partey amongst those sidelined.

Partey’s absence has opened the door for Elneny. And in truth, the Egyptian has been brilliant alongside Granit Xhaka in the middle of the park.
The 29-year-old had not started in the Premier League since December before this week. And there are doubts about his future. But Wright insisted that he could not praise his last two displays high enough.
“He may leave, but he came in when you haven’t been in for that long and put in two performances like that, two of the toughest games to be in. And he’s been magnificent,” he told Match of the Day.
Manchester United must be sick of the sight of Mohamed Elneny in midfield for Arsenal
It is hard to see Elneny staying beyond this season. But there is no doubt that he has been a good servant for Arteta’s men. And he has stepped up when needed.
In fact, Manchester United are probably fed up of seeing him. One of his best displays for Arsenal came against the same opposition back in 2020, with Mikel Arteta subsequently describing him as ‘special‘.
He showed why Arteta rates him so highly once again on Saturday.
