Glasgow Rangers legend Ally McCoist has waxed lyrical about Ibrox ace Alfredo Morelos following his performance for Steven Gerrard’s charges in the Europa League last night.
The Gers striker scored the only goal in the Group D meeting with Lech Poznan at Ibrox, pulling level with McCoist’s tally of 21 European goals for the Light Blues.
Morelos came off the bench to head home Borna Barisic’s cross in the 68th minute, finally breaking down the opposition’s resistance after Rangers struggled to break them down.
After the final whistle, McCoist was more than happy to congratulate the £33,000-a-week ace, tipping him to break his record and hoping he sticks around to help the Gers to silverware.
“It will happen – he’ll beat it and he’ll deserve to do it when he does,” the Rangers all-time record goalscorer told BT Sport, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.
“I’m thrilled for him, it was a goal Rangers needed and congratulations to him. He’s been brave – at the goal he’ll see the boot coming up, but you get the head down and close your eyes.
“His goalscoring record in the tournament is magnificent but I’d like him to stick around and win a couple of medals as well. That’s what Rangers strikers and Rangers teams like to do.”
Morelos has had his fair share of ups and downs at Ibrox but there’s no denying he’s a goalscorer of the highest calibre, for whom silverware is surely just a matter of time.
With Rangers sitting top of the Premiership and excelling in Europe, things are looking good for the blue half of Glasgow.
